energy coaching

retrofitMAINE is piloting an energy coaching program to help homeowners better understand their homes, energy usage and available opportunities to lower utility bills while improving comfort and resilience.

This free, one-on-one coaching offers tailored guidance on energy-saving upgrades and sustainable home improvements. The program is active in Lewiston, Freeport, and surrounding areas.
If you’re outside these areas and would like to participate, please still submit your interest!
We are trialing a virtual energy coaching option for those further away.

what's energy coaching?

Energy coaching is a personalized service that helps homeowners and renters better understand how their homes use energy and what improvements can lead to lower utility bills, increased comfort, and greater resilience. Through one-on-one support, an energy coach acts as a trusted guide—demystifying technical terms, answering questions, and offering tailored recommendations based on the specific needs of the home and the household. Whether it’s advice on air sealing, insulation, heating systems, or renewable energy options, energy coaches help residents navigate choices and identify the most cost-effective, impactful upgrades.

For many people, the path to making home improvements can be confusing or overwhelming. Energy coaching breaks down those barriers by providing clear, actionable guidance. Coaches may also help connect homeowners and renters with available rebates, financing programs, and qualified contractors, making the process more accessible and less stressful. Ultimately, energy coaching empowers Mainers to take control of their home energy use—saving money, improving indoor comfort, and contributing to a more sustainable future.
